The Burton Barrel Roll is a 3D sculpture route in Burton, featuring 14 giant barrel sculptures. This unique project showcases the work of both local and national artists and is part-funded by the East Staffordshire District Improvement Scheme, with additional support from local businesses.
In my artwork, I depicted several of Burton’s most beautiful sights in a romantic style. My colleagues referred to the technique I used as "free hand," and indeed, it was a challenge for my artistic skills and knowledge. The curved surface of the barrel, both in height and width, required me to apply all my understanding of perspective to ensure that the raised bridge receded into the distance, while the couple of lovers appeared to emerge towards the viewers.
I also placed a white bird on top of the barrel, a favorite and essential symbol in my work.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizers of the project and the sponsors for giving me the opportunity to create something meaningful for the city.
